We are thrilled to welcome our dear friend, Maija Lähdesmäki (https://www.onblueplate.com/) for a hands-on workshop and pop-up!

Ceramic artist Maija Lähdesmäki aspires to create timeless beauty that you’re able to enjoy every day. She strongly believes the objects that surround you contribute to your well-being, especially the dishes from which you drink and eat. She tells stories through her tableware, but wishes you to continue the narrative every time you use her ceramics. In her work you can see strong influences from nature, her home country Finland, and Nordic aesthetics in general.

Working with clay by hand and wheel offers endless possibilities to her stoneware ceramics but still strives to keep her pieces personal and playful. Her curiosity combined with a process-driven approach allows for subtle surprises in her functional art. Ultimately, her goal is to balance the contrast of an ancient material in a modern world. “I want to show my energy in my work - sometimes more quiet, sometimes more vivid-,” she says.”

Join us for a beginner-friendly pottery workshop, where you’ll learn how to shape your own pinch pot piece.

You will have detailed instruction from local artist Maija. Welcome reception includes coffee and light brunch to let your creativity flow.

After the workshop, Maija will keep your pieces to fire in her home studio. Finished pieces will be shipped within three weeks, or picked up at Tal Palo.
